Disaster Preparedness, Response, and Recovery
Early Response Teams (ERTs) stabilize, salvage, and muck out homes damaged by natural disasters and bring hope to the survivors. Trained, certified, and badged by UMCOR, we follow directly behind the First Responders, focused on families with few resources. Just as important, teams learn how to empower the survivors all in the name of Christ. After a one-day training, following FEMA guidelines and a background check, teams can form to respond quickly after a disaster.
ERT Training Opportunities
Registrants must be 18 or older. There will be a $30 per person registration fee to cover the cost of a badge, manual, background check, lunch, and snacks. If you or your church would like to schedule a training, please contact Polly Turner at firstname.lastname@example.org and click here to access the "Hosting an ERT Training Event" PDF.
Announcements about upcoming deployments and additional training opportunities will be broadcast via email, so be sure that you're subscribed to the DSC Weekly Digest.
10/11/2016: Details about a mission trip opportunity to the flood-damaged area of Baton Rouge, LA, are available here.
Master Plan for Disaster Preparedness, Response, and Recovery
In May 2013, the Covenant Council of the Desert Southwest Conference approved the "Master Plan for Disaster Preparedness, Response, and Recovery," prepared and submitted by the DSC Disaster Response Team. The DSC Plan is based largely on one created several years ago by a similar team at the Pacific Northwest Conference. Click here to download the DSC plan.
